26th: Results update

The chart on the results table that links to the supplied pedigrees has been updated to include the preliminary results for R-42, who is hoping to match our newest recruit, R-43.

The basic result chart, unlinked to pedigrees, is a direct link to the Family Tree DNA result spreadsheet, and should always be fully up to date, albeit not linked to any pedigrees.

Still a few days left to partake of the discounts on offer for testing via a project, see below for details.

10th: Results

The WFN Results page has had a long overdue update.
It now incorporates all grouped results BUT no longer in a format that links them to any pedigree on the Patriarchs page.
So few of the project members have actually provided a pedigree that it wasn't time effective to keep doing the manual work necessary to link the two.
As you will see, the result grid shows kit number and earliest ancestor with country of origin.
Blanks in the latter two mean that your personal preferences page hasn't been updated with that information.
An older result table continues to exist (page down) where links are in place to those pedigrees that are available.
Those interested in the pedigrees of their matches should contact the individuals directly - and perhaps take the time to upload your gedcom to your Family Tree DNA personal page - and Y-Search.

Preliminary results in for one more kit which shows our sole E1b1a member now has a fellow (non matching) represenetative.

Please note that the "ungrouped" results shown at the bottom are ungrouped for a number of reasons, eg have no Y-DNA results (because they've joined the project for family finder or mtdna tests), or have no defined haplogroup.

12th: Two new project members

Two new members, two different tests.
One has ordered a comprehensive genome test, the other a Y-DNA37.
Look forward to seeing the results, the first of the former being scheduled for mid December.

13th: Upgrade promotion

4th: Lineage 4

Hope I'm not stretching a point too far, but with the transfer of the results to the Supplementary project pages, I've noticed that 4 sets of results appear as matches to each other in greater or lesser degree.
Lineage 4 is therefore in the process of being created, although two sets of results are only at 12 markers.
Check out Lineage 4 in the R1b1+ grid.
None of the participants, R-05, R-07, R-14 and R-19, have provided any pedigree information that I can so far spot, so there's no additional information available at the moment.
(And if you are reading this and are one of these project members, it would be good to hear from you and see where your ROE line originates.)
Also check out the DNA Projects Portal blog for details of the Holiday promotion currently being run by Family Tree DNA for discounted tests until the end of December.
A good time to jump in and see if that supposed distant cousin really is related.

3rd: Supplementary page updates

A couple more of the results have been incorporated into the Overall Result Grid on the Supplementary pages.
The rest will gradually be moved over as time permits.

25th: Status & result updates

Long past time for an update.
We now have results from 30 kits available, but with very few matching lines.
Our 30th kit (R-34) does have a 12/12 match with an existing participant (R-02), but for genealogical matching, the bare minimum is really 37 markers (read the notes at the bottom of the join project page on the Summary project pages for more info).
15 kits are only to 12 markers and 2 to 25, with 4 to 37 and 9 to 67.

Presentation of results is in the process of changing to a more easily maintained result grid on the ROWE Detail pages of the DNA Projects Portal (they're not all there yet), leaving only an alternate result grid from Family Tree DNA on the ROWE Summary pages, which is color coded to show distance from the mode for each "group".

As before, any participant with a pedigree from Devon, or a dna result showing a match to same, is also included in the analysis of the Devon ROWE dna.
Those with such a proven pedigree, may also be interested in joining the Devon DNA project.
(To do so, log in to your personal page at Family Tree DNA, chose the Join Project link, and scroll down and select Devon from the list of surname and geographic projects available to you).

Those who haven't yet provided a pedigree for your results, please consider doing so, either via the gedcom upload option on your personal page, or to Y-Search (again from your personal page, or if you want to be included as a ROWE researcher, with linked pedigree information, on the Detail pages, send me an email (contact details on most pages).

10th: R not E

Whatever it was that showed R-17 as E1b1b1 instead of R1b1b2 was a temporary glitch.
He has been restored into his rightful place under the R1b1b2 group which predominates our results to date.
Results page updated to reflect the above.

9th: Result update/haplo change

A portion of R-17's upgrade results have been received, and updated.
It would appear that his haplogroup has been re-evaluated, and switched from R1b1b2 to E1b1b1, but as the standard published FT Dna results still show the former haplogroup, Family Tree DNA have been asked to advise which is the true group.
In the meantime the results have been shifted into the E haplogroup section.

The Family Tree DNA July sale is still on, offering good discounts for a number of tests, summary info available on our WFN pages. Be in.

We are still missing a number of pedigrees for our results, all welcome.

Failing that, remember that you can easily upload your results, and a gedcom, to Y-search for others to compare results, find matches outside the Family Tree DNA database (people can submit their results from other companies).

Just sign in to your personal page with Family Tree DNA, go to the Matches link on the lhs, and follow the link "Click here to upload your results to Y-search.org"
No tedious re-keying needed.

24th: Results updated/corrected

Last update I forgot to add the rest of the marker results on the WFN result pages that were now in for R-33.
This has now been remedied, and should match those already posted on the results posted on the supplementary pages on the DNA Projects Portal (for some of the ROWE project only).
The correction portion of this comment refers to the mistake I noticed that had crept in as the WFN pages had marker 390 as 24 instead of 23, as a result, I've shifted his results up to those he matches better, match being a very loose term in this instance however.

20th: Result updates

The WFN Results page has had a few updates:

a new/missing haplogroup has been confirmed,
some of the links from R-n on the results, to their matching pedigrees, now open in a new window directly at the pedigree concerned (previously such links weren't working fully, merely taking you to the patriarchs page because of the pages being in "frames", so I'm gradually fixing that).

Mind you, there isn't always a pedigree attached, often just a stub awaiting further information (hint hint).

Good to see that some of you have taken advantage of the Family Tree DNA upgrade offer and become curious enough to see what upgraded markers may tell you about how you match others.

15th: Bulk email to all members

Further to yesterday's post re the upgrade offer, an email has been sent to all members of the project, (unless you have chosen NOT to be contacted by the administrator) with further details.

It includes a plea to those who have tested, but not supplied a pedigree as yet, to do so, in order to back up their results and show where their line originates.

There's a list of missing pedigrees on the Patriarchs pages, and that includes instructions on how to provide the information.

Personally, I would recommend upgrading, particularly if you have a match at 12 markers, as that is really too few to show anything much at all, 37 is more or less the minimum useful number, and 67 is fantastic! (and no I do NOT get a cut for any of this, I just enjoy finding out what science can add to our genealogy research).

14th: Upgrade Offer

7th: More results; new features

As the DNA Projects Portal Site Blog for the master site states, the dna pages have had a revamp and now include rather more of the dna result grids than before.
Read the Explanations tab for how to drive it and the notes and assumptions around each chart.

All that general change notice aside, the specific changes for the ROWE project are that some of the ROWE dna result grids are now available within the DNA Projects Portal ROWE project.
The overall project summary will remain at the World Families Network pages, but selected data will now be more integrated, where appropriate.
Generally this will mean where there's a connection to Devon, but could also be where a defined lineage develops and has submitted pedigree data (not a lot of those in the project have done so).
The Projects Portal site is more flexible, can include dna signature charts, images, maps etc and grow much larger as appropriate.
Anyway, check out the growing ROWE pages at the DNA Projects Portal site, which includes the latest updates for Roger (R-33), showing that he's not a very good match with any other participants.

13th: Web site tweaks

Further to the pedigree posted yesterday, the WorldFamilies Patriarchs page has had some links created to the supplementary pages for the Broadclyst Devon pedigree.
And the introductory ROWE page on the DNA Projects Portal has had a few tweaks, mainly including a ROWE researcher index and adding Broadclyst to the map, which now opens at Devon and showing where three of our Patriarchs came from.
As it states, these supplementary pages by no means show all of the ROWE participants, focussing mainly on those with a proven paper trail connection to Devon, or a dna match to those that do, "match" being used in a very loose sense and may not be within genealogical timeframes.

More pedigrees for particpants welcome (we do seem to be missing rather a lot of them), either via the links on the WFN pages, or via gedcom to the administrator (preferred, and less error prone for updates). Any gedcoms will only be used for dna project purposes, and no dates/places for living individuals included on-line.

12th: Pedigree posted for our new participant

An outline pedigree has been posted for R-33, our newest participant.
Rather early to tell, but it looks like there might be some interesting distant dna matches with the other two Devon based trees, should we ever be able to find any paper connections.

11th: New member, some updates

The addition to the project of a transferee from the National Genographic Project prompted a check of the existing results.
Updated results have now been posted for one of the kits who had upgraded his markers, and the results received to date for the transferee have been added.

I also had a quick look at whether or not any exciting new matches between participants had snuck in when I wasn't looking.
Checking only those tested to the same number of markers:
The 67 marker tests still only have the two known lines with their confirming matches.
For the 25 and 37 marker tests none are showing as close matches with each other.
For the 12 marker tests R-21 is an exact match to R-30 but would need an upgrade in markers to see how close that might be in practice.

Any member who hasn't yet lodged a pedigree is welcome to do so, and any ROWE (and variant surnames) males interested in seeing if they have any unknown genetic relations out there are very welcome to join in.

Should anyone have any interesting ROWE webpage links they'd like added to the supplementary pages on the DNA Projects Portal, click on the compiler link on those pages to notify the webmaster of the details.

5th: Site updates

The DNA Projects Portal site has been updated to include a couple more of the ROWE project lines.
As the project is so diverse, only those with either a match, or a submitted pedigree are likely to have further information on the Portal than on the overall site at WorldFamilies.
A map has been added to the Rowe Lineage overview page showing places associated with a couple of the pedigrees.

10th: Why this blog exists

This blog was created to provide the ROWE DNA Admin with a convenient place to publish a project diary.
I prefer this format over the forums because of the labelling facility, and consistency with several other projects.

Should you be an active ROWE researcher and wish for authorship rights, please contact the project admin (email address on each project page)

I note that the project does not have pedigrees for all of our participants.
If it is any easier, I am happy to accept gedcoms, but please, only for the direct lineages, and no bdm data on living people.

In addition to the basic project pages at FamilyTree DNA, and those at the WorldFamilies Network, you may also be interested in the DNA Surnames site a "portal" to a number of dna projects.
For the ROWE project, the information is in its infancy, but it is intended to be an more easily and automatically generated site to supplement the WorldFamlies Network pages.

9th: Latest set of results posted

12 marker results for kit R-31 have been added.
Yet another instance of the ubiquitous R1b1b2 haplogroup.

The result table has had a couple of similar results combined into the one colour coding as the Genetic Distance reports show they are only a GD of 1 apart.

Should anyone wish to hazard some educated guesses as to whether or not we are showing any ROWE lineage patterns here as yet, we'd love to hear from you.

5th: Modal chart added to results

Lorna's particular interest is in ROWE families of Devonshire England, where ROWE is the SMITH name of the area, very prolific, for her particular family, see her web pages.

Between Nov 2004 and now the project has grown to include 20 results posted to the WFN pages above, spread over 4 haplogroups.
